On May 13th, Intel announced the appointment of Kevin O'Buckley as the head of its chip foundry services division.

Intel stated that O'Buckley will succeed company veteran Stuart Pann, who established Intel's foundry division under the company's new operational model. O'Buckley will report to Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger.

According to available information, O'Buckley has over 25 years of experience in the semiconductor industry. He most recently served as Senior Vice President of the Custom Silicon Division at Marvell Technology. He has also held leadership positions at GlobalFoundries and IBM.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger commented that Kevin brings unique expertise from across the semiconductor industry, having served as a senior leader and technical expert at both foundry and fabless companies. As Intel continues to build the world's first system foundry for the AI era, Kevin will play a crucial role in leveraging Intel's unique capabilities in process and packaging technology to provide a resilient and sustainable supply chain, helping customers achieve their goals.

Industry insiders believe that the company's decision to bring in a seasoned industry veteran to expand its chip foundry services division is aimed at catching up with market leader TSMC.
